In general, it’s cheaper to insure women, although the gap is closing as statistics are starting to show women and men getting in more equal amounts of accidents. Basically, you’re telling the insurance company who is more likely to be found in any given vehicle at any given time, but this doesn’t mean that you’ll get in trouble if, say, your husband gets in an accident in the family van, for which the wife is technically the primary driver. It does mean, though, that you can get some car insurance discounts by playing your cards correctly.

Also, you can probably get some hefty discounts for insuring all your cars, your home or apartment, and any other vehicles with the same insurance company. Most insurance companies have this sort of loyalty discount, which can be immensely helpful. Keep in mind, though, that the discount may not necessarily come out of your car insurance. It might, instead, come out of your homeowner’s insurance or the insurance you carry on your motorcycle. These car insurance discounts will, though, reduce the overall amount that you pay for your insurance over time, so they’ll save you lots of money in the long run.
